Printing Unicode

Even if you can see the Unicode text in the browser, you may have problems printing some languages when you are using older printers or operating systems (e.g. Windows 98).

For example, you may get a blank page when printing Arabic or Chinese, or there may be some characters missing when printing Turkish.

Solutions

Tell your printer to use the Unicode fonts.

To do this, go to Start -> Setting -> Printers and click on the name of the printer you are using. While this printer name is highlighted, go to File and select Properties, then select the Fonts tab, select "Always use True Type Fonts" then click the "OK" button. Close the Printers window and you are ready to print.

Send the fonts to the printer as graphics.

For some printers (for example, Hewlett Packard Laserjets) you may need to send the True Type fonts to the printer as graphics. To do this, go to Start -> Setting -> Printers and click on the name of the printer you are using. While this printer name is highlighted, go to File and select Properties, then select "Print Text as Graphics" or "Send True Type as Bitmaps".
